The Central Valley Long Term Support and Services Coalition (CVLTSS)

The Central Valley Long Term Support and Services (CVLTSS) Coalition grew out of the expanded efforts of the Elder Abuse Prevention Roundtable (EAPRT). EAPRT started in 1997 with 15 participants. Today the Coalition includes members from protective agencies, social services agencies, law enforcement, legal services, senior service providers, private attorneys, and advocates. The mission is to promote greater understanding of the long term social service and support needs of older and dependent adults and to advocate for the development of public policies to most effectively target this population through service development and coordination. CVLTSS works in partnership with EAPRT, as well as additional organizations to inform and encourage providers and consumers to have a voice in statewide policy discussions.

Income and Home Ownership of Older Adults Fresno County has one of the highest levels of senior poverty in the state, 1/5th of all elders are living below the federal poverty level.1 A little over half (59%) depend on Social Security for the majority of their income. Fresno Aging Population Demographics

The Fresno aging population is one of the fastest growing age groups in California. Across California 13% of the population is over the age of 65. In the Central Valley, the percentage of elders ranges from a low of 9% in Kings County to almost 13% in Madera County. California Master Plan on Aging

California Governor Gavin Newsom recently issued Executive Order N-14-19 calling for the development of a Master Plan for Aging. The Central Valley Long Term Supports and Services Coalition is a regional coalition represented by The California Collaborative for Long Term Services and Supports (Collaborative).

The Collaborative supports the development of a person-centered Master Plan for Aging that:
• Recognizes the vital role of access to long-term services and supports (LTSS);
• Incorporates healthy aging and preventive care;
• Advances the growth of age- and disability-friendly communities; and
• Ensures that no segment of the population is disregarded.

Dr. Mark Ghaly, California Health and Human Services Secretary, is urging Californians to voice their opinions on the Master Plan for Aging. Members of the CVLTSS met in October and submitted their recommendations. Read about the meeting. Central Valley Response to Master Plan on Aging
